How To Stop Bed From Moving

Remove The Bed Frame Wheels

If your bed frame has wheels, you would need to take them out. Even if the wheels are locked on the bed frame, they could still be a major contributor to your bed sliding around.

To take out the wheels, lift each leg of the bed and use a screwdriver to unscrew the wheels. You can keep the wheels and their hardware in a bag in case you might need to attach them back onto your bed frame later.

Using An Area Rug

Placing an area rug beneath your bed frame will also help stop your bed from moving, especially if you have hardwood floors. Lift your bed and place an area rug underneath it.

Ensure that the rug is large enough to reach the four ends of the bed frame so that all the frame legs are on top of the rug.

If you can’t find an area rug that is large enough, you can place four smaller area rugs underneath each leg of the bed frame.

You can also make use of rubber pads in place of an area rug. Placing an area rug underneath your bed frame not only helps to stop your bed from moving but also adds colour to your room, especially if it matches the theme of your bedroom.

Change The Position Your Bed

If your bed isn’t resting against a wall, it doesn’t have any additional support to stop it from sliding. You can change the position of your bed and place it in the corner of the room with the head resting against one wall and one side against another wall. This will help stop your bed from sliding as it receives support from both sides of the wall.

But this positioning can be difficult to adapt to if more than one person is sleeping in the bed because one person will have to be close to the inside wall.

Using A Furniture Cup

Furniture cups are thick rubber stoppers that can be attached to the bottom of the legs of your bed frame to hold your bed in place.

Lift each leg of the frame one at a time and place a furniture cup underneath them. Then place the legs down so that they fit inside the grooves on top of the cups.

Furniture cups are also called “bumper feet”  and will only work on hardwood floors because they need something to grip onto. You can purchase furniture cups at most home improvement and hardware stores.

Using Rubber Gripper Pads

You can also attach gripper pads to each leg of your bed frame. To do this, flip your bed frame over so that the feet are pointing towards the ceiling.

Then peel the backing off of your rubber gripper pads and attach them to the bottom of each leg; when you are done, flip the bed back over to its normal position.

You can purchase rubber gripper pads at most home improvement stores.

Using Bed Risers

Bed risers can be used as additional storage space as well as stop your bed from moving by providing extra grip unto the floor.

Bed risers can be placed underneath your bed frame, and they will elevate it anywhere from 6 inches to 2 feet. You can purchase bed risers either in a cone or a pyramid shape. Opt for whichever one you think looks the best underneath your frame.

Permanently Mount Your Headboard To The Wall

You can position your headboard on a wall where you want your bed to be permanent, marking the dimensions on the wall using a pencil. Then attach 3 to 4 interlocking wall fasteners with a screwdriver to your headboard and the wall it’s about to be attached to.

You need to ensure that your hardware lines up before placing your headboard onto the wall using the interlocking pieces of hardware. Afterwards, you can go ahead and attach the rest of your bed frame to the headboard and place your mattress on top.

Attaching your hardware on a wall to provide extra security. But keep in mind that this method is permanent and should only be used when you have no intention of ever changing the position of your bed.

Vacuuming

Dust and dirt collected underneath your mattress can cause it to become slippery, so you can try vacuuming in between your mattress and bed frame to remove dirt and dust and see if it makes either of them less slippery.

You should make use of a small, handheld vacuum as it will make this task much easier.

Using A Mattress Pad

Mattress pads are thin pads that are usually made out of rubber. You can place one between your mattress and bed frame to provide some friction and stop it from slipping.

In the absence of a mattress pad, you can also use a yoga mat. You can purchase mattress pads at most home improvement stores.

Using A Mattress Cover

Adding a mattress cover to your bed will help to add friction; this is because mattress covers are usually made out of sheet-like material and are used to cover your entire mattress.

A mattress cover will protect your mattress from dirt and grime over the years and add some friction to the normally slippery mattress itself. Cover your mattress with a mattress cover before placing it on your bed frame.

Mattress covers will help extend your mattress’s life as they will help create a barrier between your mattress and catch any spills or stains that occur over time.

Attach A Velcro

To also keep your bed from moving, you can attach velcro to your mattress and frame. Attach 4 to 5 adhesive velcro strips on each side of your mattress and bed frame.

Make sure to correctly align your mattress and bed frame over the strips and stick them together. You can purchase velcro strips at most hardware stores.

Add A Headboard And Footboard

If you don’t have a headboard and footboard attached to your bed frame, you can add them as they help to enclose your mattress and reduce the slipperiness of bed frames that cause your mattress to move around.

But please keep in mind that attaching a headboard and footboard to your bed frame is a permanent fix and should be done as a last resort.
